HIGHLIGHTS

-Lake Bunyonyi (a beautiful crater lake that’s a kilometer deep and Bilharzia-free. It’s located among hills not far from the chilly town of Kabale)
-Bwindi Impenetrable National Park (a famous gorilla-trekking destination, home to birds beckoning tourists from all over the world)
-Queen Elizabeth N. Park (north of Bwindi and home to many magnificent animals. Tourists come to East Africa with the clear intent to see them here. The following are of particular interest: the climbing lions at its southern end, the lively water birds, and early morning game drives/lunch cruises on the Kazinga Channel)

 
ITINERARY

Day 1: Arrive at Airport
What we’ll be doing today: Arrive and transfer to hotel; optional city tour subject to time of arrival of the group.
Where we’ll be sleeping:
-Budget: Namirembe Guest House (B&B)
-Luxury: Cassia Lodge (B&B)

Day 2: Drive to Lake Mburu National Park
What we’ll be doing today: After an early breakfast, drive to Lake Mburu National Park. On your way, there’s a good chance of seeing long-horned cows commonly referred to as Ankole. After lunch at the lodge, we embark on a motorized boat ride at 4pm where you can expect to see hippos, water buffalos, possibly crocodiles, and colorful birdlife like the African Fish Eagle. Then enjoy an evening game drive back to the hotel looking for elands, impalas, zebras and bushbucks.

Day 3: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park
What we’ll be doing today: Drive to Queen Elizabeth, taking in the sights of plantain fields and the natural beauty of rolling hills.

-Budget: Simba Safari Lodge (B&B)
-Luxury: Kyambura Game Lodge (B&B)

Day 4: Queen Elizabeth Park – Game Drive & Boat/Lunch Cruise
What we’ll be doing today: Wake up for an early morning game drive at 6am in the Kasenyi game plains looking for lions, buffalo, leopards, elephants, hippos and wildcats. In the afternoon, we embark on a boat/lunch trip for 2 hrs on the Kazinga Channel, watching for a unique combination of brillinat colored birdlife and wildlife.

-Luxury: Kyambura Game Lodge (B&B)

Day 5: Bwindi Impenetrable National Park
What we’ll be doing today: Drive to BWindi through Isasha looking for tree-climbing lions. Note that gorilla trekking starting points are either at Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga or Nkuringo, which are separated by a long meandering road. Our overnight stay will be determined by the location of the gorilla permits available at the time of booking.
Where we’ll be sleeping:
-Mid-range/Budget: Wagatail Safari Camp/Bakiga Lodge/Community Camp Ground (FB)
-Luxury: Gorilla Safari Lodge/Buhoma Lodge/Gorilla Mist lodge (FB)

Day 6: Gorilla Trekking
What we’ll be doing today: Attend a gorilla briefing at 8:00am and start the trek for gorillas. Note: The time to trek gorillas varies enormously, from as little as half an hour to as much as 8 hours before one returns to lodge. Also, please consult with a physician before participating in this excursion. The activity is physically involving, walks through thick rain forest. Altitude spans 1,160 to 2,607m. The terrain is sometimes tough, although the hike is physically demanding, the panoramic scenery and forest make the trekking worthwhile. Finally seeing these gentle giants is an exciting wildlife encounter Uganda has to offer. It can rain at any minute’s notice; hence water proof clothing is essential including ZIP bags for cameras. Porters are available at an additional small fee.

-Luxury: Gorilla Safari Lodge/Buhoma Lodge/Gorilla Mist lodge (FB)

Day 7: Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi
What we’ll be doing today: Drive to Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale for spectacular sight-seeing.
Where we’ll be sleeping:
-Budget: Nature’s Prime Island/Overland Camp (B&B)
-Luxury: Birdsnest@Bunyonyi (B&B)

Day 8: Lake Bunyonyi
What we’ll be doing today: Optional activities: canoeing, swimming, going for a nature walk, birding, visiting local communities via boat trips. Did you know? Lake Bunyonyi is the 2nd deepest lake in Africa, free from Bilhazia and featuring a stunning narrow stretch of water with tiny islands overlooked by volcanoes in Uganda.
Where we’ll be sleeping:
-Budget: Nature’s Prime Island/Overland Camp (B&B)
-Luxury: Birdsnest@Bunyonyi (B&B)

Day 9: Transfer back to Kampala
What we’ll be doing today: Depart for Kampala. For those who want to leave that day, their return flight must be scheduled after 18:00 or 6:00pm.

 

ACCOMMODATION
Our packages are based on a accommodations in a B&B (bed and breakfast) whether you decide on either the budget or luxury lodging. However, if you want full board (with breakfast, lunch and dinner), a supplemental fee of $20 will be added per person for all budget accommodations, and a supplemental fee of $40 will be added per person for all luxury accommodations. This fee would be added on top of the nightly cost of the hotel accommodation.
